The Tempest-class Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is GDI's long-range fire support vehicle armed with twin 270mm missile pods. Its hovercraft technology allows it to excel on all terrains, as well as travel across large bodies of water.
Tiberian Sun[]
During the Second Tiberium War, GDI used Hover MLRS, which replaced the aging M270 MLRS from the First Tiberium War. Its main role on the battlefield was of an anti-air unit, effective against Nod's Harpies and Banshees. It was capable of crossing water, but suffered from ion storms, which can disable its hover drive, leaving it little more than a stationary missile turret. If the unit is hovering over water when that occurs, it would sink. Furthermore, its missiles were ineffective against infantry, therefore, it needed to be escorted by anti-infantry units, such as the Wolverine.
Tiberium Essence[]
By the Third Tiberium War, a new version of the Hover MLRS known as Tempest MLRS had entered service. Its armament has been enhanced, enabling it to quickly fire a barrage of eight rockets from a long distance before having to reload. In addition, it can be upgraded with Reactive Armor to increase its durability and Advanced Fire Control for increased rate of fire. Beyond that, almost nothing else about the unit was changed.

- Up until version 1.5, the Hover MLRS used generic ground vehicle voice from Tiberian Sun. In 1.5, it was given Orca quotes and one Firehawk quote from C&C4.
